Climategate- The “Harry Read Me” File

The “Harry Read Me” File- A Must Read On Climategate

As many of you know, I’ve been video archiving Glenn Beck’s show on Fox News for the last few months and posting many of the clips on You Tube (My Channel, TheDailyBeck). Yesterday, Glenn had on “Welcome To Obamaland” author James Delingpole from across the pond to discuss Climategate and the decision by climatologist Phil Jones to ’step down’ after all those hacked e-mails were released (Watch The Beck Segment Here).

About midway through the interview, Beck asked Delingpole what was the one “earth-shattering” thing that everyone should understand about Climategate.  His answer was a file called “Harry Read Me”.  Harry Read Me is a file that documents the frustration of a programmer who is trying to manipulate the climate data in a program to give climatologists the result that they want.  It even documents that the real “raw” climate data has been erased.  Delingpole calls it “data-raping”.

The document is not only very telling of the data manipulation going on, but it is also quite funny to read the programmer’s frustrating comments when he can’t get the program to “work”.  Here are just a few excerpts:

“What the hell is supposed to happen here? Oh yeah- there is no ’supposed,’ I can make it up. So I have : – )”

“You can’t imagine what this has cost me — to actually allow the operator to assign false WMO (World Meteorological Organization) codes!! But what else is there in such situations? Especially when dealing with a ‘Master’ database of dubious provenance …”

“OH F— THIS. It’s Sunday evening, I’ve worked all weekend, and just when I thought it was done, I’m hitting yet another problem that’s based on the hopeless state of our databases.”

“This whole project is SUCH A MESS …”

Before we spend 145 trillion dollars on fixing a problem that doesn’t exist, all of the facts should be presented- including these.  However, since the media will not touch this, once again we’ll all have to do their job and pass this around.

I have attached the entire “Harry Read Me” file to this post.  I can’t make much sense of all the data and numbers.  To me, they are just, well- a bunch of numbers.  But it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out what the programmer’s real motive was here.

  • Hum, it seems obvious none of the commenters bothered to read the linked text file and Joe seems to misunderstand several things. For example, the thing he "made up" for that first quote was a set of menu options for a data merging program! Some smoking gun you got there, someone made up a few menu options in a computer program therefore global warming is a lie.

Short version, the problems being discussed here are computer programming problems and say nothing at all about the validity or lack of validity of the data the program is operating on. That someone had a hard time writing a computer program only tells us about that person's coding skills and nothing else.
  • You need think about it. Despite the emails, the overwhelming evidence showing global warming is happening hasn't changed.
"The e-mails do nothing to undermine the very strong scientific consensus . . . that tells us the Earth is warming, that warming is largely a result of human activity," Jane Lubchenco, who heads the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, told a House committee. She said that the e-mails don't cover data from NOAA and NASA, whose independent climate records show dramatic warming.

this is awesome~ I've waited for the day this lie would be exposed!!!!!
  • Bill Douglas
I can make it up. So I have : – ) Hahaha it's so funny. Yet this will cost us 145 trillion dollars I heard someone say if we go through with this Copenhagen thing.

thx for posting. It's all really quite telling, isn't it?
  • Wow. Yet they say the science is "settled".
